Basic Skills

GRASP is a programme, funded by the Learning Skills Council, which is available to anyone who is:

  • unemployed

  • between 16 - 65 years old

  • allowed to work in the UK

  • living in West London

It's a three stage programme aimed to assess, qualify and advise clients.

Stage One is the basic skills training. Clients will undergo a short assesment to identify their needs. They will then be offered the appropriate training, be it in Literacy, Numeracy, or ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

Stage Two aims to get people qualified, offering tuition from Entry 1 (beginner) level, to Level 2 (Advanced). Once a month there is an option to take a qualification in either Speaking & Listening, Reading or Writing.

Stage Three provides access to an Information, Advice and Guidance worker (IAG) who, together with the client, will identify opportunities for further education, training or employment.

Acton Learning Resource Centre operates an Open Learning system which allows maximum flexibility to accommodate the lives of our learners.

If you, or anyone you know, would like more information about this
or any other of our learning programmes, feel free to get in touch!
