About Us

What does Action Acton do?

Action Acton is an expanding West London charity, Development Trust, Limited Liability Company and social enterprise.
Action Acton’s core objective is to “promote economic and community regeneration in Acton, Ealing and adjoining
West London boroughs”.

Business Plan Objectives:

The key objectives set out in the Business Plan are to:

  1. Help disadvantaged, unemployed individuals secure employment
  2. Help disadvantaged individuals improve literacy, numeracy and basic skills.
  3. Reduce crime by assisting ex prisoners and offenders to secure training and employment.
  4. To regenerate Acton Town centre through Acton Town Centre Task group, Acton Markets
    and support to local businesses.
  5. To undertake a range of community development initiatives including work with
    BMER individuals and groups and community safety initiatives.
  6. To help unemployed individuals set up their own businesses.
  7. To support businesses as a way of assisting regeneration.
  8. To provide a business incubator unit for start up businesses in the creative
    and media industry.
  9. To develop Action Acton so it becomes a financially sustainable charity,
    Development Trust and social enterprise.

Action Acton currently employs 20 staff and 5 volunteers.  Action Acton provides a range of services to help people in need -
particularly disadvantaged, unemployed individuals.

Action Acton works in partnership with other charities and organisations, local authorities and public sector bodies.

Action Acton works in Acton, Ealing and adjoining West London boroughs including Hammersmith and Fulham and Brent.

Action Acton is in an exciting period of transformation.  Changes to the public sector agenda and to funding means
that Action Acton must continue to identify and develop new income streams, strengthen its own profile, extend its range
of services within the key themes of the Business Plan and pilot new business ideas to achieve its Mission.

 

Current (2008) projects include:

  1. Offenders Project - Helping offenders into work - This project currently works with offenders in Ealing and in
    Hammersmith and Fulham.
  2. Action Acton Learning Centre - Providing FREE tuition and support on reading, writing, English language and maths. (The LSC Contract)
  3. Somali Equal Ace Project (SEAP) - Helping unemployed Somali and other individuals into skills for life and employment. (The LDA funded contract)
  4. Acton Town Centre Market Regeneration Project - organising and running street market 3 days a week in the newly refurbished Acton Town Square.
    The objective of the project is to regenerate Acton Town centre and also provide self employment opportunities for unemployed individuals.
  5. Ealing One Stop Job Shop project – Leading a consortium of voluntary organisations to help unemployed individuals from disadvantaged areas
    of Ealing find employment and voluntary work placements (London Councils/ESF/LBEaling funded)
  6. Skills for Jobs Project - Working with Ealing, Hammersmith and West London FE College to provide training and employment support for
    unemployed individuals in Ealing and Hounslow (LSC funded)
  7. Young Offenders in Custody and the community Project (YOCC) – Helping young offenders from Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham get
    qualifications and employment  (LSC funded)
  8. NEET’s Project – working with young people between the ages of 14-19 years old, who are not in education, employment or training in the Ealing and
    Hounslow Borough. (ESF Funded through LSC)
  9. Personal Best -  Helping Unemployed or economically inactive (e.g. claiming IB or IS benefits) individuals undertake training courses and gain volunteer and work placements and employment. (The LDA funded contract)
  10. Skills Bank (City Parochial Foundation) tackling poverty in London  - Aimed at reducing high unemployment in Ealing and getting
    people into jobs above the minimum wage.
  11. West London Jobs Project – To assist unemployed local residents in West London to find sustainable employment though 1-2-1 appointments and all aspects of employability support. (LDA/ESF Funded)
  12. Ealing Jobs Project – helping unemployed clients in Ealing area to get jobs. (INGEUS/ESF funded)
  13. Future Job Funding – working with JCP and finding employers with vacancies, finding jobs for 18-24 year old, who has been signing on with JCP for 6 months or less.
  14. Safer Neighbourhoods and Community Safety Pproject - Working with Police Safer Neighbourhood Ward teams in
    Acton and with the Safer Ealing Partnership and voluntary sector groups.
  15. DWP Job Centre Plus Support Contract (A4e) – helping unemployed participants in Ealing and Hounslow boroughs acquire / update job search skills, providing resources and support to help clients apply for vacancies. Referrals are made by Job Centre Plus Advisors in Ealing and Hounslow.
  16. The Doughnut Factory - Business Workspace for SME's - providing low cost desk space, meeting rooms etc for businesses. Also forms part of Thames Valley University’s new FUTURESKILLS business training programme.
  17. Support Local Businesses via:
  • Helping support Acton Business Forum - a networking group for local businesses
  • Providing network and training seminars for businesses in Acton
  • Providing training for individuals who want to set up in business
  • Providing business support as part of the West London Consortium (LDA funded)
