What does Action Acton do?
Action Acton is an expanding West London charity, Development Trust, Limited Liability Company and social enterprise.
Action Acton’s
core
objective
is
to “promote economic and community regeneration in Acton, Ealing and adjoining
West London boroughs”.
Business Plan Objectives:
The key objectives set out in the Business Plan are to:
- Help disadvantaged, unemployed individuals secure employment
- Help disadvantaged individuals improve literacy, numeracy and basic skills.
- Reduce crime by assisting ex prisoners and offenders to secure training and employment.
- To regenerate Acton Town centre through Acton Town Centre Task group, Acton Markets
and support to local businesses.
- To undertake a range of community development initiatives including work with
BMER individuals and groups and community
safety initiatives.
- To help unemployed individuals set up their own businesses.
- To support businesses as a way of assisting regeneration.
- To provide a business incubator unit for start up businesses in the creative
and media industry.
- To develop Action Acton so it becomes a financially sustainable charity,
Development Trust and social enterprise.
Action Acton currently employs 20 staff and 5 volunteers. Action Acton provides a range of services to help people in need -
particularly
disadvantaged,
unemployed individuals. Action Acton works in partnership with other charities and organisations,
local authorities and
public sector bodies.
Action Acton works in Acton, Ealing and adjoining West London boroughs including Hammersmith and Fulham and Brent.
Action Acton is in an exciting period of transformation. Changes to the public sector agenda and to funding means
that Action Acton
must continue to identify and develop new income streams, strengthen its own profile, extend its range
of services within the key
themes
of the Business Plan and pilot new business ideas to achieve its Mission.
Current (2008) projects include:
- Offenders Project - Helping offenders into work - This project currently works with offenders in Ealing and in
Hammersmith and Fulham.
- Learning Resource Centre - Providing FREE tuition and support on reading, writing, English language and maths.
The LSC Contract. Construction Projects - Helping unemployed individuals into training and work in the Construction industry.
- Somali Equal Ace Project (SEAP) - Helping unemployed Somali and other individuals into skills for life and employment. Funded by the LDA.
- Reaching Out (Nord Anglia Lifetime Development) - To provide short-term intervention assistance with all aspects of
job search to
Ealing residents looking for full or part-time work. Work includes skills assessment, preparation or amendment of CV’s/covering letters.
On-to-one appointments with Advisors at Crown Street at office or Acton Jobcentre plus office. Funded by the LDA.
- Skills Bank (City Parochial Foundation) tackling poverty in London - Aimed at reducing high employment in Ealing and getting
people
into jobs above the minimum wage. To provide assistance with all aspects of job search to Ealing residents looking
for full or part-time
work, training
or voluntary work including CV’s covering letters, employers liaison, internet and telephone access.
One-to-one appointments with
Advisor at
Crown Street office.
- Safer Neighbourhoods and Community Safety Pproject - Working with Police Safer Neighbourhood Ward teams in
Acton and with the Safer Ealing
Partnership
and voluntary sector groups.
- Acton Town Centre Market Regeneration Project - The LDA Opportunities Funed Programme – The project is to
runs street markets of up
to 50 stall holders in Acton.
The objective of the project is to regenerate Acton Town centre
and also provide self employment opportunities for
unemployed individuals.
The Project has been developed by
Action Acton
and is being delivered in partnership with Ealing Council and other
local agencies.
- The Doughnut Factory - Creative Industry Workspace - Converting Warple Mews premises into business incubator units for
Creative and
Media ‘Start Ups’.
Funded by the LDA.
- Support Local Businesses via:
- Supporting Acton Business Forum - a networking group for local businesses
- Providing network and training seminars for businesses in Acton
- Providing training for individuals who want to set up in business
